About Wymondham Choral Society
The Society attracts members from a wide geographical area and comprises individuals of diverse ages, backgrounds and experience. We enjoy the privilege of singing in some of the area’s most beautiful churches, usually in Wymondham Abbey and Attleborough. Concerts are performed to a high musical standard with professional soloists and often with an orchestra. Our three major annual performances help raise money for charities chosen by our members. We are a friendly and inclusive collection of singers, all with a common love of music and performing together. The members of the choir enjoy the connections that are developed as being part of a group, benefit from improved wellbeing as well as providing superior musical enrichment for the community and choir. There have been many outstanding concerts for the choir. These include a performance of Brahms’ Requiem under the baton of Dr. Jonathan Griffith in Carnegie Hall, New York in May 2017 and a programme of American music with the Vox Anima London Singers in Cadogan Hall, London in June 2019.
Meet Clio Burroughs. Clio started singing with WCS in January this year. Originally from Nova Scotia, Canada, she moved to the UK as a child and in 2024 relocated from London to Norfolk. Clio says “I initially heard the choir when they were rehearsing for a concert on my first visit to Wymondham, it looked like they were having such great fun that I wanted to join in. Being part of the choir has been even better than I hoped and I’ve had such a warm welcome”. When not singing in the choir Clio is a freelance arts administrator and a keen cook.
Meet Jenny Turner. Jenny started singing with WCS about 15 years ago, having not sung in a choir since she was at school. She had a friend who was already a member and was keen to give it a go. Jenny says "Singing in a choir has been such a wonderful hobby for me. I have made so many friends, and also boosted my confidence in my voice, and my sight-reading. I am also a member of the Choir's committee, as the Altos' rep. which has been a lot of fun. Outside of the choir, I love going to see live music - gigs, musicals, opera"
Meet Kevin Ward — proof that it’s never too late to start singing! Kevin began his musical journey at 40, joining both Wymondham Choral Society and the South Norfolk Operatic Society, where his passion for classical and musical theatre truly blossomed. He’s graced the stage at the Theatre Royal Norwich in productions such as Jesus Christ Superstar and Oklahoma. His love of choral music has even taken him across the UK and to Siena, Italy, performing in cathedrals and concert halls alike. Kevin especially enjoys singing major works — including Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, Vaughan Williams’ Sea Symphony, Britten’s Requiem, and many works by Bach, Handel, Haydn, and Mozart.
